Bus Rules & Regulations

The mission of the KU Park & Ride Express is to provide safe, dependable and convenient transportation to destinations on KU's West and Main campuses. With this mission in mind, the following rules and regulations apply.

The following activities are prohibited on the bus:

1. Smoking
2. Eating
3. Drinking, including consumption of alcohol
4. Running
5. Littering
6. Loud or intrusive use of profanity/obscenities
7. Disorderly conduct, including threatening or harassing behavior to other passengers and/or drivers
8. Conduct that could pose a threat to public safety (exposure to bodily fluids, pathogens)
9. Solicitation for commercial or non-commercial purposes
10. Vandalism, graffiti
11. Taking up more than one seat
12. Placement of feet upon seats
13. Inappropriate/distracting conversation with the driver
14. Listening to electronic equipment without the use of headsets
    • KU Park & Ride reserves the right to ask any passenger to turn their equipment off for the safety and/or comfort of other riders
15. Remaining on the bus for extended periods with no expectation of departing for a destination
16. Occupying a shelter with no expectation of catching a transit vehicle
17. Sleeping on the bus or in the bus shelters
18. Traveling with pets with the exception of service animals trained to assist individuals with disabilities
19. Opening windows without the permission of the driver
20. Placing hands, arms, heads, or personal belongings outside of the bus

The following carry-on items are prohibited on the bus:

21. Items too large or too numerous to be reasonably controlled, carried, or handled by a passenger
22. Hazardous materials (e.g., car batteries, gasoline cans or other flammable materials)
23. Firearms or other weapons
24. Items that would block the aisle or require the use of an additional seat if the additional seat would deprive a passenger of a seat
25. Strollers and/or shopping carts that cannot be folded and stored safely
26. Open containers of alcoholic beverages, drink, or food

Passengers are required to:

27. Board the vehicle only at the curb via the front door allowing passengers to exit first. The rear door is exit only.
28. Wear shirt and shoes
29. Remain seated while the vehicle is in motion and:
    • Keep strollers folded up and out of the way of other passengers;
    • Hold small children securely during your trip
    • Keep aisles clear of parcels and packages. Any items brought on board must remain in your complete control
30. If occupancy requires standing, remain behind the white line located at either door of the vehicle and hold onto the stanchions or overhead railings

Passengers who do not follow the regulations are subject to removal from the KU Park & Ride Express vehicle. Violators of these rules and regulations may be subject to suspension from the KU Park & Ride Express for a minimum of thirty days.
