Departmental Parking Needs
Visitors
Departments may purchase visitor permits for visitors to their department, but faculty, staff and students are not eligible to use daily visitor permits, regardless of the funding source used for the order. Some visitor permits may be ordered for half days (AM or PM), full days, or multiple days. Visitor permits are available for:
- Surface Lots ($6/day) — Valid in Blue, Red, Yellow and University Housing lots. Not valid in Gold lots or parking garages.
- Hooded Meter ($10/day) — Available all day only. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance.
- Mississippi Street Garage ($8/day).
To be credited for unused visitor permits, departments must return permits on or before the day permits are valid. Unused permits for hooded meters will not be credited. For orders that are not picked up, there will be a handling fee equal to 20% of your order.
State Vehicles
Any state vehicle parked in a color zone parking lot is required to display a valid parking permit for that lot. After determining their needs, University departments may purchase parking permits for state vehicles for gold, blue, red or yellow zones. State vehicles are required to pay at meters. State vehicles may park free in Park & Ride.
Reserved Parking Spaces
If your department would like a reserved parking space, for either your state vehicle(s) or visitors, you should send a request to the Parking Commission for approval. If approved, Parking & Transit will work with you on the placement of the reserved space, which will be invoiced on an annual basis.
Departmental Passes
A departmental pass provides University employees access to restricted areas, including the Mississippi Street Parking Garage, for purposes of conducting employment-related business. The pass is for occasional, short-term use only. It is not to be used for parking to attend class, for long-term parking while at one's regular job station, or for any personal (not employment-related) reason. Abuse of the intended purposes of the pass will result in revocation.
Departments may purchase up to two (2) departmental passes each year. Requests for additional passes must be petitioned directly to the Parking Commission. The departmental pass must be taken to an information booth or the KU Parking & Transit office in order to receive up to a three-hour courtesy pass. The departmental pass must be accompanied by a valid KU parking permit.
To order departmental passes, please send an email to kupark@ku.edu with the name of your department, number of passes you wish to order, and who in your department will be responsible for the passes.
