The Parking Commission is the body which makes decisions regarding the rules and regulations of KU Parking & Transit. Their recommendations are forwarded to the Provost for his approval, and rule changes usually go into effect on August 1. If you are interested in serving on the Parking Commission, please contact University Governance at 785-864-5619.

Meetings

The Parking Commission will meet at least three times each semester, starting in September of each year. Special meetings may be called by the Chair or at the request of four members of the Commission.

Open Forum

The Parking Commission hosts an open forum each year in the fall semester. This year, the open forum will be held on October 23, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. in the English Room in the Kansas Union.

Responsibilities

The Parking Commission shall develop and recommend to the Provost general policies for the control and management of the parking of vehicles on property under the control of the University, and the traffic control booths. It shall consider charges to the Commission submitted by SenEx and by the Provost. The Commission shall annually forward all of its recommendations directly to the Provost, who, with the Chancellor, will make final decisions.

Membership and Terms of Office

The University of Kansas Parking Commission shall be composed of ten voting members and seven ex-officio non-voting members. Voting members shall be appointed by the Provost and shall be comprised of three members of the student body (one of whom shall be the Student Senate Transportation Coordinator); three members of the faculty (one of whom may be an emeritus faculty member) recommended by the Faculty Executive Committee; two university support staff recommended by the University Support Staff Senate; and two unclassified staff recommended by the Unclassified Professional Staff Association. Faculty mem bers and classified/unclassified staff members shall serve staggered, three-year terms and may serve successive terms if appointed. Student members, except for the Transportation Coordinator, shall serve staggered two-year terms, and may serve successive terms if appointed.

Ex-officio, non-voting members shall be the Chief Financial Officer of the Lawrence campus; the Assistant Provost for Planning and Facilities Management; the Associate Provost for Support Services; the Director of Design and Construction Management or his/her designee; the Chief Justice of the Court of Parking Appeals or a Court Officer; the Director of the Office of Public Safety or his/her designee; and the Director of Parking Services.
